30 Dec 2020

Now’s the time to start planning your high summer adventure, The Grampians Way.

Spend the sunny season experiencing the thrills and spills of water sports. Find the perfect picnic setting, take a dip after a long day of adventure or be mesmerised by our stunning waterfalls. The Grampians has so much to offer at this time of year.

Nigretta Falls 0817

Exploring our region's waterfalls is a magical way to enjoy the glorious sunshine surrounded by lush greenery and a tranquil atmosphere.

Take the road from Halls Gap to Wartook Valley to see the iconic MacKenzie Falls. Head north to Beehive Falls, wander from Wonderland to the serene Splitters Falls, or take the fern-laden trail south to Silverband Falls, just fifteen minutes' drive from Halls Gap. If you’re in Southern Grampians, Hamilton is home to two waterfalls fed by the Wannon River – Wannon Falls and Nigretta Falls.

Take a break from the scorching heat and revive yourself with a cool tour of our waterfalls. Read our guide to some of Victoria's most majestic waterfalls for more inspiration.

Swimming Spots

Why not ditch over-crowded beaches and local swimming pools? Instead, discover the serene inland lakes and sparkling waterways of the Grampians region.

In the North, set up beside tranquil waters and take a dip to cool off in Lake Bellfield. Or on your hike to the Pinnacle dip your toes into the natural swimming holes at Venus Baths.

After a day of exploring the magnificent and wondrous trails in the South, unwind with a paddle at Lake Hamilton.

In the West, Lake Toolondo is one of our region’s most stunning spots for swimming in the Wimmera.

If you’ve spent a long day sipping and savouring the East, refresh body, mind and soul with a refreshing swim at Green Hill Lake or Lake Bolac.

There is nothing more invigorating than a swim in our pristine lakes and waterways.

While the sun is out, make the most of our many beautiful picnic spots. Our lush, bountiful gardens; family friendly parks; atmospheric waterfalls; and awe-inspiring lookouts make the perfect setting for a picnic with groups of friends, families or couples.

From barbeque facilities at Halls Gap Playground Picnic Area to secluded shores along Lake Wartook and 360-degree views from One Tree Hill lookout, make memories this summer with a Grampians picnic.

Before you journey to your ideal picnic spot read our guide to picnicking in the region and fill your empty Esky with local produce from farm gates and artisan producers.
