Take time out in the country and enjoy a different experience at a farm stay in the Grampians.
With countless wineries and hikes nearby, The Shearer’s Quarters at Mount William Station is the perfect base for exploring one of the most picturesque parts of Victoria.
First established in 1869, the Shearers’ Quarters was home to Mount William Station’s extended family of shearers and station workers. A cosy and welcoming space that was built to be shared – for stories to be told whilst enjoying a hearty meal – and a place that provided a peaceful sanctuary after a long day spent in the woolshed producing the wool that would be exported to the Old World.
The Shearers’ Quarters is the perfect place for individuals, couples, and groups to embrace the relaxed countryside atmosphere and rest after a day of adventures in the Grampians. With eight private bedrooms and shared bathrooms and common areas, the Shearers’ Quarters stays true to its original layout but has been refreshed with modern amenities to provide guests with a rustic farm stay experience.
Another farm stay in its original bluestone glory, built around 1856 by the Rentsch and Petschel families, is Petschel House in Hamilton. It is a studio gallery and garden that is open for visitors and locals to explore. Jenni Mitchell & Mervyn Hannan offer classes and workshops where students are encouraged to ‘see with the artists’ eye’ and paint from observation, in turn developing an understanding of tone and colour while still being able to learn techniques to help them along in their personal discovery of style. Petschel House has a Queen-sized room in the main house for guests who would like to stay over - perhaps attending a workshop, traveling to Hamilton for work, or as a tourist. A continental breakfast is included with the accommodation. All-day tea and coffee-making facilities are available and guests may explore the variety of garden rooms at their leisure. Also included are a private bathroom, WIFI, and fridge facilities. You may book the room directly with Jenni and Mervyn at 0417 585 102.
