Perhaps the most iconic and famous waterfall in the Grampians region is MacKenzie Falls - one of the largest waterfalls in Victoria. This waterfall is a must-do when visiting the Grampians National Park.
Located only 40 minutes from Halls Gap, MacKenzie Falls flows all year round. The falls sees water cascade over huge cliffs into a deep pool, sending fine sprays of rainbow mist high into the air above a stunning gorge. For the best vantage points, take the easy one-kilometre path to the viewing platform at the Bluff (wheelchair accessible), or the steep trail to the base of the falls (30 minutes one way).
While you’re visiting the falls stop by Reed Lookout and The Balconies, a 10 minute drive from the MacKenzie Falls Carpark.
Only a five-minute drive down the road from MacKenzie Falls is the magnificent Fish Falls. Fish Falls cascades 60 metres over terraced rocks into a pool below all year round. You can easily access Fish Falls from the popular Zumsteins Picnic Area. The walk that leads up to the falls is a moderate 4.6 kilometre return trip and follows the MacKenzie River upstream.
Pack a picnic and rest your tired feet in the pool at the base of the falls or climb the steps to the top for an exhilarating experience.
Renowned as one of the most breathtaking waterfalls in the Grampians region, enjoy the peace and tranquillity at Beehive Falls. Only 2.8 kilometre return, start your walk at the Beehive Falls Carpark and take the path leading to the base of the falls where seasonal rains fill fern-lined rock pools.
Visit the Falls after rain for the best views, and in spring for a dazzling display of wildflowers.
Splitters Falls is a stunning seasonal waterfall, accessed via a short walk from the Wonderland Carpark or take the journey from the centre of Halls Gap. Follow the path along Stony Creek to Venus Baths, a series of rock pools popular for toe-dipping on warm days. From here, take the stairs to the serene setting of Splitters Falls. The best time to see the falls is in spring or after a heavy rainfall. The falls may dry up over summer.
Only a 10 minute drive from Halls Gap is the picturesque Silverband Falls. This waterfall was named by European Settlers in the 1800s, as the spectacular stream of water resembles a silver band.
Starting at Silverband Carpark take a short 700 metre stroll through shady, ferny forest to arrive at the base of Silverband Falls. Watch the clear, fresh water fall fast down the mountainside and run into the creek below. This is a fantastic waterfall walk to undertake with children, as it is a flat, easy track with many fantastic spots to take photos along the way.
Wannon Falls, located in the Southern Grampians, presents a remarkable display of water flowing down the falls into a deep plunge pool below. Just 20 kilometres west of Hamilton, Wannon Falls was created by basalt lava flow that surged upstream to the Wannon River. Make a day of it and explore the number of walking trails nearby which range from easy to moderate in difficulty.
While visiting Wannon Falls, stop and visit the nearby Nigretta Falls. This small waterfall, fed by the Wannon River is perfect for swimming, fishing, picnics and barbecues. Break up your hiking adventure and view the falls from above while enjoying a family picnic or barbecue. Or take the stairway leading to the base, where water pools provide excellent secluded swimming and fishing spots.
