Local lookouts by car
This itinerary is perfect for those who want to explore the stunning vistas of the Grampians from the comfort of their car, with minimal walking required, ensuring an accessible and leisurely day out.
Morning: Boroka Lookout (accessible to all ages and abilities, wheelchair and pram friendly)
Begin your day early with a drive to Boroka Lookout, one of the most accessible yet spectacular lookouts in the Grampians. Take the very short walk from the carpark to the lookout platform where you can revel in 180-degree views of Western Victoria, looking out over Halls Gap and Lake Bellfield. Picnic tables and toilets are available. It's a perfect spot for a sunrise photo, so consider starting your day at dawn to capture the scenic beauty in the soft morning light.
Mid-Morning: Reeds Lookout and The Balconies (wheelchair and pram accessible)
Next, drive to Reeds Lookout, which provides a different perspective over the Victoria Valley, Lake Wartook and the Serra and Mt Difficult ranges. The car park is adjacent to the first lookout an easy point. From Reeds Lookout, you can opt for a short, relatively flat walk to The Balconies, a stunning rock formation that offers another breathtaking viewpoint (the perfect location for misty mornings and autumnal sunsets).
Lunch & Afternoon: Mackenzie Falls (Migunang wirab) Lookout (wheelchair and pram accessible)
Drive to Mackenzie Falls (Migunang wirab), one of the largest and most picturesque waterfalls in Victoria and flows all year round. While the walk down to the falls itself is steep and not suited for everyone, the lookout is accessible and offers stunning views of the falls and the gorge. Have a picnic lunch here, enjoying the powerful sight and sound of the water cascading down the cliffs.
Late Afternoon: Mount William (Duwul)
Finish your day with a drive up to Mount William (Duwul), the highest point in the Grampians. The drive itself is scenic, a short steep walk (1.6km return) from the carpark to the summit allows you to experience 360-degree views of the entire Grampians ranges and beyond. It’s an ideal spot for late afternoon photography when the light casts long shadows and enriches the colours of the landscape.
*There is no view from the carpark.
Evening: Dinner in Halls Gap
Return to Halls Gap for dinner at one of the local restaurants. Weather permitting, choose a spot with outdoor seating to continue enjoying the views of the surrounding mountains as you reflect on the day’s journeys.
