The Pomonal Tunnel Walking Track offers a rewarding blend of history, nature and gentle adventure on the eastern side of the Grampians (Gariwerd) National Park.
Beginning near the village of Pomonal, the trail follows a steady rise through open woodland, where native wildflowers and birdlife are common companions. The highlight is the hand‑cut rock tunnel, created in the late 1800s as part of an early water‑race system.
Beyond the tunnel, the track opens to views across the valley toward the Mount William and Serra ranges, making it a favourite spot for photographers and walkers seeking a quieter alternative to Gariwerd's major lookouts. The return walk is rated as moderate to hard.
There are a relatively steep uphill and downhill (return) gradients on this track and after rain, it can become very difficult.
