Get artistic as you snap the ancient rock formations or wait until you reach the top to get that classic, awe-inspiring Grampians pic. This Grampians icon has flooded Instagram with so many caption-cries of “don’t go chasing waterfalls” over the years, and it’s getting a little old. Take a little TLC with your words after you get your pic at Mackenzie Falls and come through with a fresh waterfall-based caption (or stick to the classic, we really don’t mind!). Only 30 minutes from Halls Gap, this waterfall is one of the largest in Victoria and flows all year round.
Weave through the hills and valleys of two mountain ranges on an epic road trip from Halls Gap south to Dunkeld. There are countless opportunities along this drive to capture the ultimate Instagram picture of the road ahead and the mountains above.

The ever-changing sky at Reeds Lookout/The Balconies is an Instagram connoisseur’s dream – if you can’t get a great social media pic here, you might need to give up the dream of being an influencer.
Hollow Mountain is a superb short hiking trail located in the Northern Grampians. This hike delivers a big reward with stunning rock formations overlooking the Mt Stapylton amphitheatre and the Wimmera plains. And as the name states, there is a perfect spot right at the top of the walk where the rock seems to have made a hollow, perfect for capturing that ultimate photo at the summit.
The top of Mount Abrupt offers stunning views of the Serra Range and Dunkeld. Keep an eye out for the amazing wildlife on your way, including wedge-tailed eagles, rock wallabies and peregrine falcons. Catching these critters on camera catapults you into the Instagram stratosphere of likes. If you happen to make the trip in spring, anticipate stunning wildflowers galore, this really is the spot to experience the Grampians in full bloom.
Relax amongst the trees and take in the serene beauty of Dunkeld Arboretum. You’ll be spoilt for choice for Instagram pics along the 2km walking track – stunning trees, lakes with mountain backdrops and, if you’re lucky, ducklings in the springtime.
Just a short drive from Horsham, Dimboola’s Pink Lake is one of the more beautiful and inspiring locations in the Wimmera. For the ultimate Instagram pic, try and catch it on a clear day – the contrast between the blue sky and pink water is something to behold. Whilst out in the Wimmera, be sure to be on the lookout for the Framing the Wimmera art installations – a great opportunity for a unique pic.
Fed by the Wannon River that flows through the mountains of the Grampians, the 30 metre high Wannon Falls is a photographer’s dream. Watch the water cascade over the precipice of hardened basalt lava into the plunge-pool below and bask in the majesty of a lesser known, yet just as stunning waterfall backdrop.
