Regional Victorians, embrace your freedom – The Grampians Way

16 Jul 2020

Fellow regional Victorians, right now, we’re lucky. We’re lucky because we have the space, the freedom and the opportunities to discover the incredible natural attractions on offer in our own backyard - all to ourselves.

Though we feel blessed here, we are feeling for those in Melbourne currently staying at home for Lockdown 2.0, we miss them, and look forward to welcoming them back soon.

In the meantime, we’re calling out to regional travellers. Why not make the most of your freedom while our towns and villages are a bit quieter? Here are some unique and inspiring spots around the Grampians where you can embrace your freedom, support our people and take a few, much-needed days to retreat, recharge, and rediscover a new perspective.

Hiking 2

The freedom to explore nature

The Grampians is the perfect place to escape the daily grind and unwind in nature. Journey to our rugged mountains and discover a calmer, more peaceful side of yourself by embarking on an outdoor escape.

You have the opportunities to hike the natural beauty of our National Park, view Aboriginal rock art and learn about our Indigenous culture, discover pristine lakes and waterfalls, or simply take in the solitude and serenity at our scenic look-outs.

Whatever it might look like for you, come and find your most nurturing nature experience and embrace your freedom - The Grampians Way.

Adventure

The freedom to adventure

The Grampians is a veritable playground for outdoor enthusiasts and thrill seekers looking for adventure.

Take in the natural beauty of the Grampians from above with a scenic helicopter flight, or get your heart racing with rock-climbing escapades. Embrace the space and hit the bike trails, or wind among the mountain peaks and dramatic rock formations with a 4WD driving adventure through the Grampians. And for those looking for a memorable day on the water, head to Lake Wartook for canoeing adventures as well as fly, boat and shore fishing.

Journey off the beaten path and discover your freedom with endless possibilities of adventure.

Food and Wine

The freedom to taste

If the Grampians’ unique natural landscapes, wildlife, fascinating history, and adrenaline-rushing adventures don’t win your heart, its culinary culture will.

We are home to many historic and boutique wineries. From an award-winning red at Clayfield Wines or Montara Wines, to a vibrant white at Seppelt Wines or Best’s Wines, enjoy exploring our cellar doors. To make it a truly relaxing and memorable experience, let a local expert guide you with number of wine tours available for bookings.

Next, discover another iconic local crop, olives. We recommend Red Rock Olives and Grampians Olive Co.* where you will not only find award-winning olive goods, but also enjoy locally grown chick peas, capers and lentils, surrounded by sweeping mountains and natural beauty.

No foodie tour of the Grampians is complete without dropping in to our cosy cafes, heart-warming country pubs, and classic bakeries including: Café Catapla, Salingers Café, Great Western Hotel, Kookaburra Hotel, Dunkeld Old Bakery and Koopmans Dunkeld to name a few.

There’s a lot of choice, so if you’re unsure where to start follow our wine and food lover’s guide to the region.

Gratefully, you can also shop online for fresh produce, beautiful handcrafts and award-winning wines.

*Please note Grampians Olive Co is currently closed, while the other restaurants listed are open — some may have limited hours, others are offering takeaway only and some may be reviewing their current dining services. Call ahead to find our more information and reserve your seat at the table.

The freedom we have here in regional Victoria offers an incredible opportunity to immerse yourself in nature and some of the best food and wine in the country, all while supporting small local businesses.

So, the next time you find yourself looking for a weekend activity, browse through our unique accommodation offerings, or consider a day trip. Embrace the freedom you’ve been blessed with, and support your fellow regional Victorians in the Grampians.
