Award-winning wines in the Grampians: Mount Langi Ghiran

28 Oct 2022

The Grampians wine region is home to some of the world’s oldest vines and is known for its elegantly styled and well-structured Shiraz. Visitors can truly experience this region’s beautiful flavours at Mount Langi Ghiran.

Mount Langi Ghiran is nestled amongst the beautiful backdrop of the Great Dividing Range in the Grampians. Since the 1960s, the winery has been producing iconic cool-climate wines. The name, Mount Langi Ghiran, is Aboriginal for ‘home of the yellow-tailed black cockatoo’.

The first vines were planted on the property in the late 1800s before the Fratin family replanted in 1969 and Mount Langi Ghiran really came to be. From the first plantation, they created the iconic “Langi” Old Block Shiraz and over the years added Cabernet Sauvignon, Riesling, Merlot and Cabernet Franc.

What started out as a scrub blog with a scattering of tin sheds, is now a modern-architecturally designed cellar door surrounded by vibrant vines and rolling mountains. Replicating a slice of Italy here in Australia.

Today, Mount Langi Ghiran is run by winemaker, Adam Louder, alongside the broader winemaking team and Viticulturist Damien Sheehan. Each shares a passion and vision for Langi now and for the future, aspiring to make some of the best wines in the country.

Be sure to include a stop at Mount Langi Ghiran winery on your Grampians road trip to sip and savour these striking wines for yourself.
