The PiccaninnyStep out and explore the Grampians (Gariwerd) National Park's spectacular natural beauty on foot. There are many walks and hikes on offer, from a gentle stroll to a full-day adventure or more.
The iconic Pinnacle walk and lookout is one of the highlights of the entire Grampians region. Hikers are rewarded with stunning views of Halls Gap and the surrounding peaks. Visitors have a choice of three trails, each varying in distance and grade, to reach the Pinnacle.
An easy stroll from the centre of Halls Gap. Follow the 2.3km track and cross over Stoney Creek at the small bridge to the botanic gardens.
Two spectacular locations from one car park. Only an easy 2km walk apart, both of these lookouts provide beautiful views of the Victoria Valley and the surrounding ranges.
A moderate 2km walk from the carpark takes you to the highest point in the Grampians (Gariwerd) National park. Bound to impress anyone on a quest for incredible scenery, the summit provides views across the mountain range as well as of Pomonal, Moyston and Ararat.
Boronia Peak involves a rocky climb up to the summit, where you will be rewarded with superb views over Lake Fyans and the surrounding countryside.
A more difficult 6.5km walk for the experience hiker. This trail will have you winding through woodland and emerging on a rocky ridge. For the best walking experience, explore in spring to early summer.
An easier walk at the southern end of the Grampians (Gariwerd) National Park. The Piccaninny (Bainggug) provides wonderful views of its neighbour, Mount Abrupt (Mud-Dadjug) and nearby Dunkeld.
Another walk for the adventurous walker, the Mount Sturgeon (Wurgarri) trail includes rock hopping and slippery surfaces - an estimated 3 hours return.
At 12km return, this is a full day out for those wanting to take the road less travelled. The spectacular 'Gate of the East Wind' is a highlight of the walk.
The Hollow Mountain (Wudjub-guyan) walk, at the northern tip of the Grampians (Gariwerd) National Park is recommended for fit and energetic walkers as it can involve slippery track surfaces, rock hopping and rock scrambling.
Call into a local Visitor Information Centre or Brambuk - The National Park and Cultural Centre for more detailed walking information.
Be rewarded with some of the best hiking trails and panoramic views in Australia on the full 13-day/12-night trail or choose from a range of stunning overnight and multi-day hikes. You can also experience smaller sections of the trail on day walks.
