Contact Women in 17th Century Italy - Seminar

Join the curators of Emerging From Darkness and fellow art historians who will share captivating insights into some of the leading women of 17th Century Italy.

These include Queen Christina who attended social events in Rome with her 'flying squadron' of young cardinals; Barbara Strozzi, a Venetian composer and singer; and Artemisia Gentileschi, who forged a successful career in a number of cities across Italy.

From queens to musicians and artists, this symposium takes a closer look at those women who played a leading role in Italian society and often defied societal expectations of female behaviour.

Visitors interested in female artists, feminism, royalty, music and gender issues will find something to love in this fascinating study day

Tickets include a light lunch, refreshments and access to the Emerging From Darkness exhibition.
