Horsham Regional Art Gallery present curated exhibitions built around three focal points: Australian Photography, The Wimmera + its Artists and The Mack Jost Collection of Australian Painting and Works on Paper.
From the collection’s inception, the evolution of Australian photographic practice has been a defining presence. The photography collection includes key historical photographers Nicolas Caire, J. W. Lindt, Frank Hurley and Esther Baylis. Contemporary artists include Destiny Deacon, Janina Green, Pat Brassington, Polly Borland, Bill Henson, Polixeni Papapetrou, Tracey Moffatt, Jo Scicluna, Darren Sylvester and Daniel Crooks.
The Gallery collects works by artists of the Wimmera region along with works containing this regional subject matter. Contemporary artworks include those by Anthony Pelchen, Martin King and Marion Borgelt. Nicholas Chevalier and Sidney Nolan were also inspired by the landscapes of the Wimmera.
The collection of paintings and works on paper is the result of the generous gifts of Mr Mack Jost AM. The collection includes works by many significant Australian artists from colonial and modern periods, along with more recent acquisitions made through the Trust in line with Jost’s collecting principals.
The collection has been developing since 1972, and is funded through the Horsham Art Gallery Trust Fund.
