Seppelt Underground Tours

Taking part of the Seriously Shiraz Festival in the Grampians? No visit to the region is complete without a tour of the Underground Cellars of Seppelt Wines. Seppelt has been at the forefront of Australian winemaking for over 160 years. From its humble beginnings in 1851, when Joseph Seppelt established Seppeltsfield in the Barossa, to today: renowned for producing elegant shiraz, table and sparkling wines from an exceptional collection of Victorian vineyards. Through a tradition of expert winemaking and a passion for innovation, Seppelt has paved the way in progressive cool climate style wines; producing Australia’s first sparkling wine, as well as pioneering the iconic sparkling shiraz. Seppelt is famous for their heritage listed labyrinth of underground cellars, known as The Drives, which wind for three kilometres beneath the historic Great Western home. With excavation beginning in 1868 by out-of-work miners from the early gold rush era, and continuing for over 60 years, The Drives are the largest underground cellars in the Southern Hemisphere. Guided tours provide a fascinating glimpse into Victorian wine pioneering history. Tours occur every hour starting at 11:00am until 4:00pm, from the Friday to Sunday.
