Local potter Katy Mitchell will create a pop-up studio in the Halls Gap Hub to demonstrate her techniques to visitors and display her hand-crafted ceramic tableware. She will make functional pots, such as cups and bowls, on the potter’s wheel and decorate them with designs inspired by the surrounding Grampians National Park.
This project is part of The Australian Ceramics Association's Open Studios weekend and a satellite event of Craft's 2018 Craft Cubed Festival.
Raised on the wind-swept and rain-soaked Isle of Man, Katy makes functional pots intended to be used and embraced in daily life. Inspired by the beauty (and oddity) of the environment in which she finds herself, be that her island home or adopted homeland of Australia, Katy's pots are decorated with intricate illustrations of flora and fauna.
