Pigment & Wax: New flora works & landscapes - an exhibition of artwork by Carolynne Hamdorf made from blending beeswax with pigments and natural ochres
Natimuk based painter, Carolynne Hamdorf, has been experimenting with blending beeswax with natural ochres and pigments for the past six years. Commonly known as encaustic, it is an ancient and durable form of painting. In 2016, Hamdorf introduced beehives into her garden and has been collecting excess wax and using it in her paintings, including this body of work. Hamdorf is motivated by using as much locally sourced material as possible and enjoys making her paint from scratch. She also collects and uses tree resins and shellac to add sheen and depth to her work.
