Perspectives Exhibition

Scholars noticed long ago that creativity runs in families and this exhibition lends much creditability to this premise. It brings together six members of the very talented, extended Berry family, and a constellation of genetic and environment factors that have come together in the right way and the right moments: intelligence, some associative and divergent thinking, a spattering of personality traits, like the tendency to take risk, motivation and specific interests.

The six members include: Anne Bateup, her twin brother Don Berry, his wife Leah, and their children, Jake and Jasmine and Ben Dawe (from Leah’s previous marriage). Whilst they are all ‘self-taught’ their artistic expressions are divergent, from realism to digital impressionism and in a manner of mediums.

Anne specializes in native flora and fauna and Don has long explored local rural landscapes, whilst Leah has been influenced by Tom Robert’s work of early Australian individuals, buildings and animals. Jake and Jasmine are inspired by the language of the human body. Ben has had a 16-year career in animation and video production, and has recently been exploring digital impressionism.
