Connections - an exhibition of work by Sue Cunningham.
Using salvaged family domestic textiles, along with needle and thread, the artist honours family members gone by, and the passage of time. The use of everyday linen such as handtowels, tea towels and handkerchiefs, and a rug, all with wear and tear still evident, connects the people who used them to the viewer. The slow hand stitching embeds time into every stitch.
Similarly, the artists connection to the nearby Iron Barks reserve is linked to fabrics which have been dyed from local plants. Mark making using wrapping and clamping alludes to mining activities which were once conducted there.
