Enjoy Spring - The Grampians Way

Victoria, right now, we’re lucky.

We’re lucky because we have the space, the freedom and the opportunities to discover the incredible natural attractions on offer in our own backyard this Spring.

We’re calling out to travelers. Why not make the most of your freedom while our towns and villages are a bit quieter? The crisp weather, with the chill in the air and bright blue skies makes for the perfect time to explore our natural surroundings.

Here are a few ideas to help you start planning your Grampians Spring experience.

Spending time in nature is the perfect way to re-centre. Step out and explore the Grampians (Gariwerd) National Park natural beauty on foot. Get your body moving and soak up the magnificent mountain views and breathe in the fresh spring air. There are many walks and hikes on offer, from a gentle stroll to a full day adventure or the recently launched multi-day Grampians Peaks Trail.

In Spring, our National Park bursts with colourful wildflowers that blanket the rugged mountain ranges and vast landscapes. A truly wonderful sight to behold.

From delicately scented orchids bending in the wind to bright Blue Tinsel Lilies bursting with colour and the Grampians Thryptomene covering the bush grounds like snow, our region transforms into the ‘Grampians Garden’.

Home to one-third of Victoria’s flora and more than 1,000 species of flowering plants with approximately 20 of these species’ endemic to our region, you’ll be awed by our dazzling array of native flowers.

Spring in the vineyards coincides with the grapevine cycle known as 'Budburst', with the vines awakening from their winter dormancy and beginning the new growing season.

It is not only the vines that are reawakening after the winter of lockdown! The cellar doors throughout the region are delighted to be welcoming guests again. There are dozens of historic and boutique wineries scattered across the undulating Grampians and Henty wine regions waiting to be explored this spring.

The Grampians wine region is known for its world-class wines, including its cool-climate, silky-smooth, peppery shiraz. With an amazing history that dates back over 100 years, spring is the perfect time to discover what makes the Grampians wine region so amazing.

With a chill in the air, now is actually the best time to embrace the winter weather and go chasing waterfalls. Winter rains are feeding the creeks and rivers, resulting in thunderous waterfalls and rainbows shimmering in the misty spray. The Grampians region is home to magnificent waterfalls, including the iconic MacKenzie Falls, one of the largest and most spectacular waterfalls in Victoria, as well as many more lesser known gems to discover.
