Your Guide to the Grampians this Melbourne Cup Long Weekend

Ditch the city this Melbourne Cup long weekend and head to the Grampians. From Friday to Tuesday (1-5 November 2024), the region will be buzzing with events and activities. Whether you're bringing the family along to one of our agricultural shows, browsing one of the many markets, indulging in a Grampians wine experience or craving an adventure in nature, there’s something for everyone.

Market 1

Kick off the weekend by visiting the Haven Market on Saturday (2 November). Just outside of Horsham, this community event showcases local creatives and unique stalls and is surrounded by beautiful bushland.

On Sunday 3 November, the Natimuk Farmers Market provides another opportunity to shop for handmade goods, along with farm-fresh produce and such treats as honey, fruits and vegetables, baked goods and food vans. Entry to the Natimuk showgrounds is by gold coin donation.

Also on Sunday, check out the Halls Gap Market and join the thrilling Duck Race along Stoney Creek at 2pm - a $5 entry fee gets you a duck in the race and the chance to win $500.

While in the area, stop by Halls Gap Zoo — Australia’s largest regional zoo — home to 120 species of friendly creatures, or enjoy a meal at the Halls Gap Hotel.

Seeking something larger than life? The Horsham Truck Show on Saturday and Sunday (2-3 November) promises a spectacular display of trucks from all over Australia. With live music, food trucks, kids’ activities and a kids' convoy supporting W.A.C.K. (Wimmera Against Cancer in Kids), it's a fun event supporting a great cause.

Anglers won’t want to miss the Grampians Lakes Fishing Competition at Lake Fyans, Lake Bellfield and Lake Lonsdale. Held across the weekend (2-3 November) by the Stawell and District Angling Club, the competition offers impressive prizes, including $5,000 for adults and a kayak for juniors.

For those after more rural charm, the Coleraine Show and Byaduk Spring Show, both on Saturday 2 November, provide a deep dive into local agriculture, with family-friendly entertainment, vibrant floral displays and a friendly community atmosphere.

Art lovers are in for a treat at the Pomonal Art Show & Festival, running Friday 1 to Sunday 3 November. With exhibitions by both local and renowned artists, the show is accompanied by a market, food stalls and a community dinner and auction to kick things off on the Friday night.

History buffs can step back in time with Narrapumelap Homestead Tours on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 November. This grand French Gothic mansion, built in 1873, offers a rare glimpse into the past with guided tours through its recently restored rooms.

For those interested in textile art, the Ararat Gallery’s TAMA Collection is open daily and showcases a rich history of fibre art and merino wool production.

If you're in the mood for something indulgent, the Mountainside Wines Vertical Shiraz Tasting is a must. From Saturday 2 to Monday 4 November, taste museum shiraz vintages from 2013 to 2018, as well as the newly released 2021 wines.

Can’t get enough of Grampians wine? Take a guided tour of the Seppelt Winery Drives in Great Western, a network of underground cellars stretching for three kilometres that offers a fascinating journey through the history of Australian winemaking.
