The Grampians National Park has your extreme adventures covered, but why not change the pace and take a stroll through one of the many parks and gardens throughout the Grampians region.

Enjoy the elegant regional civic gardens of Hamilton and Horsham, designed by the acclaimed botanist William Guilfoyle or see the hand of Edna Walling, Australia's pre-eminent landscape garden designer, in many of the private and public gardens across the Grampians region - spring and early summer is the perfect time when the sun is out but the air is still fresh and many private gardens open to the public.

Dunkeld Arboretum

The Dunkeld Arboretum showcases a living collection of the world's trees. Set in a dramatic and beautiful recreation precinct at the base of the Grampians National Park, the Arboretum provides visitors with a truly unique experience.

The Arboretum is home to a labyrinth and Old Sawmill, as well as a walking track and picnic facilities. Experience the beauty and history of this magnificent 18-hectare Arboretum.

Cato Lake Park, Stawell

Cato Park is situated in the heart of Stawell and provides visitors and the community with a beautiful recreational area. The park surrounds idyllic Cato Lake and with barbecues, tables & seating, shelter, a playground and walking trails which weave in and around the park, it is the place to go for a relaxing time, all year round. The beautiful grass surrounds provide the perfect location for families to unwind.

Alexandra Gardens, Ararat

Enjoy the sanctuary of lakeside Alexandra Gardens, the gardens feature newly sealed walking paths, BBQ and picnic areas, colourful flower beds and terraced lawns sloping to an ornamental lake. Be sure to visit the walk-in fernery or take advantage of the new exercise stations.

Hamilton Botanic Gardens

Established by William Guilfoyle, curator of the Melbourne Botanic Gardens, the Hamilton Botanic Gardens are one of Victoria's most outstanding regional civic gardens and rightly recognised as an important part of Victoria's Heritage. The first sketch plans and suggested plantings (now more than 100 years old) are held at the Hamilton Art Gallery. The Gardens are open every day and are a source of interest and pleasure to residents and visitors alike.

Horsham Botanic Gardens

Designed by William Guilfoyle in the 1870s this was originally a reserve of 37 acres, but only eight acres remained by 1982. Clubs and individuals have donated trees and shrubs over the years and several thousand thrive in this peaceful haven. Children's playground and picnic facilities are included amongst trees, lawn areas, rose gardens and floral displays beside the Wimmera River.
