The Ultimate Grampians Christmas Lunch Guide

15 Dec 2017

To celebrate the festive season we have created a guide of some of our favourite wines from the Grampians region and what to pair them with at your Christmas party!

Food, wine, friends and family – the Summer festivities have already begun! It’s a time for celebration, cooking up a feast and cracking out some fantastic wines to pair with all that lovely food.

Its Christmas day and the guests have all arrived and the presents are being opened. To start things off a nice glass of Riesling is probably the way to go. Light, refreshing, reassuringly low in alcohol, it’s the perfect wine to kick off proceedings.

The Grampians Wine Region is well known for its crisp, fruity Rieslings that are unique and bold in flavour. For the perfect start to your holiday season be sure to pick up a bottle of Mount Langi Cliff Edge, Fallen Giants and Best’s Great Western award winning Rieslings.

So you’ve set out the party snacks, nibbles and canapes, and now you’ll be wanting a cool white wine with plenty of freshness to relax and enjoy the celebrations. Something vibrant and not too heavy. Few wines fit the bill quite as well as Montaras 2017 Sauvignon Blanc; Light, friuty and refreshing, a great wine for sipping all day long. Or try Norton Estates 2017 Sauvignon Blanc which displays elegant fruit flavours balanced by a lingering crisp acidity.

Now its time to eat! No Aussie Christmas is complete without a seafood course. Fish, prawns and other shellfish are all compulsory, providing the perfect appetizer before the main event. When pairing with these foods, opt for a bottle of Pierrepoints Pinot Gris from the Henty Wine Region, one of the coolest climates of Australia's mainland wine growing regions. The region is known for its aromatic white wines, the ultimate pairing for any seafood dish.

What would a Christmas feast be without a roast turkey or chicken!? If you’re going to spend all day in the kitchen preparing your bird, then you’ll be wanting a special red wine which matches those savoury flavours perfectly. Your succulent bird paired with Grampians Estate 2015 Streeton Reserve Shiraz is a match made in heaven. Grampians Estate has won many accolades for its intense, fruity flavour that comes some of the oldest vines in Victoria.

As it comes to the end of the celebrations and the sweets are brought out, you will want to mix things up with some bubbles! Seppelt is famous for being a pioneer of Australia's unique sparkling Shiraz wine style and has more experience making it than any other producer in the world. The rich flavours of the Sparkling Shiraz explode on the palate with plum and savoury spice, just what you need to complement grandmas Christmas pudding! Barangaroo Wines 2013 Sparkling Shiraz is just as vibrant with flavour, whilst not being too heavy (which means more room for desserts!)

By now I think its time for one last round before the day is over, CHEERS to a beautiful Aussie Christmas feast and the magnificent Grampians Wines!
