Harvest in the Grampians, celebrate with these award-winning Grampians wines

31 Mar 2022

The change in season officially welcomes the grape harvest; a historical period for Grampians winemakers to pick the fruit-heavy vines and begin crafting the wine that is soon to be on our tables.

With a large selection of award-winning wines in the Grampians, harvest marks the perfect time to explore the Grampians’ vineyards and celebrate with a tasting, or two.

To help you get started, wine expert, Simon Freeman, from Grampians Wine Cellar has helped us put together a list of our favourite award-winning wines you can enjoy from home, or find on your next Grampians road trip.

Fallen Giants 2019 Shiraz

Fallen Giants Vineyard is known for its beautiful rocky estate grown Shiraz, Cabernet and Riesling. In 2021, it was their 2019 Shiraz that earned the Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy for the Best Young Red. This award is one of the most coveted awards in Australia.

With aromas of boysenberry, blackberry and dark cherry fruits, and a palate of blue and black fruits, it’s a must-try for any red-wine lover.

Visit the cellar door in the heart of Halls Gap and settle in for an afternoon of free wine tastings and a cheese platter, overlooking spectacular views of the Grampians.

Miners Ridge

Miners Ridge 2021 Riesling

Located in the heart of the Grampians region, Miners Ridge Wines has been producing some of the finest wines for over three generations.

After years of growing grapes for other wineries, owners Andrew and Katrina began crafting their own Riesling, Shiraz, Chardonnay, Cabernet and more.

A small range, high in quality, its 2021 Riesling was a star at the 2021 Ballarat Wine Show, taking the award for the Best Riesling. The young wine offers a delicate palate of favourite Grampians citrus flavours, including hints of honey, passionfruit and white peach.

Stop in on your travels for a tasting of the winning wine and a platter or book a ‘Walk and Talk With Andrew’ to learn more about the winemaking process. The venue also has a bed and breakfast for those that want to linger a little longer.

Grampians Estate

Grampians Estate 2018 'Streeton' Shiraz

Grampians Estate is one of the region’s premier boutique wineries. Its Great Western vineyard features 130 year-old shiraz vines, being some of the oldest in Australia. Specialising in cool-climate peppery Shiraz, it’s no surprise that its elegant and medium bodied 2018 Streeton Shiraz was awarded Best Wine in Show at the 2012 Western Victoria Wine Challenge.

Grampians Estate has quickly become one of the region’s favourite wineries for locals and visitors.
