8 Reasons to go the Grampians this Spring

28 Sep 2017 by Amanda Cochran

Lucky for you, the Grampians region really turns it on in Spring with plenty of opportunities to taste, explore and enjoy all that's on offer. From waterfalls to wineries and everything in between, make it your "go to" place to wine, dine and get amongst nature... Here's our top 8 reasons to get booking your Grampians getaway, pronto!

1. Get serious!

Well it goes without saying, but we'll say it anyway - Seriously Shiraz is of course reason number 1! With over 20 events over 5 days, it's the perfect excuse for a long, lazy (or lively!) weekend away.

2. Go chase those waterfalls

See the iconic Mackenzie Falls, one of the biggest and best waterfalls in the Grampians. Flowing year round, the falls sees water cascade over huge cliffs into a deep pool, sending fine sprays of rainbow mist high into the air above a stunning gorge.

3. What's that Skip?

The Grampians is home to plenty of wildlife - kangaroos, emus, echidna and birdlife. There's plenty a places to see kangaroos around Halls Gap, or head to the Halls Gap Zoo to see over 160 species of animal.

4. Hike (Wine and Dine)

So, we have this brag-worthy place called the Grampians National Park with plenty of opportunities for hiking and bushwalking and lots of #selfie opportunities so you will be the envy of all your friends (urm, why are they not with you?!). Take a hike (we mean that ever so nicely) or head to a scenic lookout, drink in the views and then reward yourself with a great local wine and a fabulous dining experience.

5. Rest your weary head

With so many styles of accommodation available, you can choose from glamping to camping, to hotel, motel, hostel, to cabin, cottage, retreat or lodge, And just look up at our beautiful night skies for the best star-rating on offer :)

6. Dreamtime

Gariwerd (Aboriginal name for Grampians) is pivotal to many ancient stories by Aboriginal communities in South-Western Victoria. You can learn about our region’s unique Aboriginal culture and history at Brambuk – The National Park & Cultural Centre in Halls Gap.

7. Where the wild things are

Spring is THE best time to see our special wildflowers in all their glory. Bright yellow wattle, refreshing white and pink heath and stunning orchids are dotted throughout the landscape.

From October 7–8 the Grampians Wildflower Walkabout will be showcasing the region’s vast native flowers in their natural setting. The weekend will see regular guided walks through the Grampians Flora Botanic Garden, as well a night walk on Saturday October 7 and an early morning bird walk on Sunday.

Nearby in Pomonal The Native Flower Show is running on the same weekend. Meaning visitors can discover their favourite blooms on walks through the national park over the weekend, before taking home a selection from the flower show to spruce up the backyard.

8. It's the ultimate road trip

Only 2 hours from Melbourne, 1 from Ballarat, the Grampians region provides the ultimate road trip where half the fun is the journey here - and most certainly the spectacular views on offer as you approach.
