This summer, broaden your horizons and embrace the wide open spaces of the Grampians. To help plan your Grampians getaway, here are 10 places and experiences to tick off the list.
Across the Grampians there are many opportunities to take a refreshing dip, cast a fishing line, get active with water sports or fly above our famous lakes with Grampians Helicopters. Choose your swimming spot or book a stand-up paddle board and canoeing adventure with Absolute Outdoors.
Whether it’s a visit to Victoria’s largest regional Zoo in Halls Gap, a tour through Grampians (Gariwerd) National Park to see birds and wildlife in the bush, or farm experiences at Rosehaven Farms and Redbank Alpacas, there are many exciting animal experiences on offer in the Grampians.
Sip local wines overlooking the landscape at our wineries and cellar doors. If craft beer is more your thing, then visit Halls Gap’s award-winning Paper Scissors Rock brewery or Stawell’s Grampians Ale Works. Make the most of your afternoon sipping in the sun with Grampians Wine Tours or hitch a ride with Ambush Grampians.
The Grampians are certainly not short of scenic lookouts and panoramic views. Relax after a day of adventure and soak up a summer sunset. Try Boroka Lookout 15 kilometres from Halls Gap, or visit Reeds Lookout and The Balconies to enjoy views of jewel-coloured evening skies.
Settle in for lunches in the shade and warm summer dinners as the light fades. The Wander Inn in Wartook is a peaceful spot to enjoy a meal in gardens, the Halls Gap Hotel has a huge open verandah and playground, Spirit of Punjab offers view of the mountain ranges, while Roxburgh House in Hamilton offers a charming courtyard for Italian-style pizza.
Afternoon grazing has never looked better. Fill the Esky with local produce from our farm gates and producers and throw down your picnic blanket on the edge of Lake Hamilton, at One Tree Hill or among the trees at Dunkeld Arboretum. Be inspired by our picturesque picnic settings dotted across the region.
Lace up the walking boots and take your pick from unrivalled tracks and trails through the region. Challenge yourself on the Grampians Peaks Trail, enjoy an easy stroll on Venus Baths Loop, or take on a rocky climb up the Boronia Peak Trail.
Marvel at the balance between power and serenity at waterfalls throughout the region. MacKenzie Falls (Mikunung wira) is one of Victoria’s most spectacular waterfalls and a must-visit. Silverband Falls is a 15 minutes drive from Halls Gap offering walks through fern-laden trails.
Connect with the ancient and spiritual history of Gariwerd (Grampians). The region has the largest number of rock art sites in Australia’s south and over 80% of Victoria’s rock art sites.
It wouldn’t be summer without an ice cream stop. In the heart of Halls Gap, try Gelato Guys or Coolas Ice Creamery.
