Victoria is renowned for the hundreds of parks and gardens around Melbourne and throughout the state.
The Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne is considered to be one of the most significant botanical gardens in Australia. Established in 1846, the Royal Botanic Gardens cover 36 hectares and is home to over 12,000 different species of plants. There are a number of other regional botanic gardens in Victoria.
The public gardens of the Dandenong Ranges are at their best in spring and autumn, but are well worth visiting at any time of the year. The National Rhododendron Gardens are abloom with rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias, daffodils.
